Diagnostic and Treatment
UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
Mays Ambulatory Clinical Building

Houston, Texas
More than 80 imaging rooms made this 781,400 sf outpatient facility structurally complex and challenging to open — with state-of-the-art equipment dedicated to breast, gynecological, genitourinary and urological cancer patients.

With an overall concept to offer diagnostics, clinics, radiation treatment, surgery and chemotherapy in one familiar place, the design integrated healing gardens and waterfalls as well as artwork in every patient room.

The fourth floor housed 75,000 sf of procedure space including surgery, interventional radiology, iMRI, shared procedure recovery space, and other support areas.  The patients and staff responded so well to the new ambulatory surgery facility they were able to use these universally designed operating rooms to serve a wider range of case types by adding other specialized equipment and instrumentation after opening.

EC consulted on elevator sizes, infrastructure, vibration, shielding, and coordinated over 480 sheets of vendor drawings.
